Banquette dining seat dimensions please

Have you designed banquette seating for your home? Our new build will have a window seat/day bed that will double as the bench seating for one side of our dining table. The seat will be “floating” as much as possible to allow feet to tuck back under (may also put some baskets under as seat will be wide enough to lie on) and height plus cushion top equals dining chair height. The back will be one sliding glass window that will open up 50% of the 3.6m. Large cushions can be stacked at the non opening end for lounging or leaning. What else should I be mindful of? Thanks for any advice.
NB For those who are not fans of benches - there will be 5 chairs and we are more sit around the island diners so comfort is less of an issue than space constraints and the opportunity for a day bed in northern sun and looking out at the pool.

for the banquette to be wide enough to lay on it would need to be at least as deep as a narrow single bed which makes it too wide to sit on comfortably without a very thick back rest or a giant pile of cushions to clutter up the space...why not consider a back and sideless freestanding daybed so the primary purpose is laying down and the sitting to dine is only short term and doesn't need a backrest ....this example or similar with taller legs would be a simple economical way to add the day bed feeling without expensive built ins and two along the window wall could look quite inviting with a simple throw and scatter cushion

Thanks for your reply and thoughts. As this is a new build, the cost of the seat has been factored in. Comfort consideration of the wide seat is not the main priority as we seldom use our dining table for long formal meals. I am thinking a minimum 60cm wide seat would be comfortable enough for me to sprawl on.

Thanks Louie and Georgi for your comments. Great suggestions for me to think through. Thanks for taking the time to provide that detail. To help see the space a bit better, I've taken out the wine rack and replaced it, temporarily, with a shelf (that was in a different part of the house) that matches the one holding the water filter (the second shelf is to hold our phone and modem - again, due to a small house, it's really the only place the phone and modem can live). Plus, I've extended the table so that I could get a feel for the size table the area could potentially accommodate, now that the wine rack isn't there. The size of the table with the extension is: 1800 x 840. Ignore the look of the current table - regardless of whether we go banquette seating or not, we would like to change the table and perhaps a pedestal table would be best so that it makes it easier to get to the seats at the back. By the way I noticed that when I look at this post on my iPad I don't see all the photos I included like I do when looking at it on my laptop. Hopefully the photos I've included show okay for others looking at this. Thank you.

my suggestion would be to have a wall supported bench without storage along the long wall with the 1500 wide study nook and deeper lift up 1500 wide storage bench along the short wall and using the same chair for the study nook and having wall shelves above the desk with office storage drawers under the desk the built in desk would make the study nook feel more like a kitchen dresser (with wall shelves/storage for crockery?) and an oval extending table would make access more comfortable and there should be space for at least 6 diners along the bench and 4 or more in the seats

Hi there, As I see it the problem is common in that there are too many doors in the nearly square space so all the room should be taken with traffic lights! Can the laundry be over with the kitchen? Can the proposed living room have three walls uninterrupted by doors on the north or east (garden) sides? This will give u place to put sitting furniture. Then make kitchen & l'dry on south side as skinny as possible maximising the width of the room for dining table. The other problem that is silly is the garage at the back of the site (It was for keeping the horses away from the house). It is wasting all the drive space. If cars can park at the front of the site it frees a heap of extra space on the south that can be used far better. Kitchen and laundry over by the south boundary, clear space for dining that could open to the existing lounge, area on the north for bedroom creep adding ensuite next to existing bathroom, and living area to the north and east......This helps maximise north light and living too. always about compromise and if the laundry window is reinstated in the original location that restricts options for tall storage so i've included a skinny sink next to the window, a stacked washer and dryer and left the rest of the space open to use for overhead cabinets and/or shelves, tall space under wall cabinets for broom, ironing board, vacuum, baskets etc and hooks on the window wall for work clothes and dog leads...any custom built cabinets would be cramped and very expensive so use the open floor space for storage without doors...the location of the back door opening and doorways from hallway and front entry would also make it too cramped for the narrow cabinet that you wanted unless you make the laundry and powder room too small for the cavity sliding doors so, with so much extra kitchen cabinets for pantry storage (eg between fridge and stove or island drawers?) why not use the central cabinet for your mini office and keep the original wall between entry and living would save demolition and could allow a location for your sideboard.. striped wall sections show dog gates without doors and under a sofa table would make a great nook for the dog beds

I don't know if it helps , but i have a motorhome , and it has effectively 2 banquettes -- 2 'booths' . They are 1200 wide .

The bases ( sitting piece ) are 400mm deep , the backs are 500mm high , the table top is 1 metre wide . The table top drops down , the 2 back pieces slot in the middle , and it makes up a bed 1800 long and 1200 wide .
