Bravo to all these amazing creative minds. I hate wasting stuff that still has life in it. By the way, though I have read that some pallets are treated with a fumigant which is toxic. Generally, make sure pallets are stamped with “HT”, which means they haven’t been exposed to chemicals (at least not in the treating process.) Avoid unmarked pallets or those with “MB” for methyl bromide. I actually have a mix of drawers and cupboards and a few shelves in my kitchen – each was chosen according to how they would be used. So there are drawers for nearly everything (crockery, saucepans, baking equipment, mixing bowls, small appliances, salad bowls, chopping boards, cutlery, tea towels, aprons, oven mitts, appliance manuals etc etc) although I have a few shallow, push to open handleless cupboards for wine glasses, bottles of alcohol, vases etc that open into the dining room. I have a few open shelves in a recessed section of wall for serving platters, large and small, and small decorative items like jugs that give me pleasure to look at as well as two shelves for cook books. I also have shelves in my pantry as well as a cupboard with pull-out wire baskets. And a wonderful tall cupboard that has the brooms, dustpan, hand-held vacuum cleaner, fire extinguisher, step ladder all stored neatly and accessibly. So a real mix of drawers and cupboards – and it works really well as well as giving me pleasure!

@mwenn, I sort of do agree with you that hiding everything away till it's needed seems a little fake but when you live in a home as I do at present, with a very tiny kitchen and everything is out because there's nowhere to put it away, consequently, I have a very limited prep area, so in my new kitchen, I can't wait till everything is in a draw or in a cupboard, so that I can enjoy the freedom of having a clear work area. That doesn't mean I won't enjoy a cooking day where everything is brought out for it but most everyday cooking in my opinion, doesn't require all the big gun machines to be taking up bench space. I'm afraid you might think my new kitchen will be one of these "fake" kitchens but I can assure you it won't be but remember most of the photo's that get shown on Houzz, have been professionally prepared for the photo, with nothing out of place, "minimalist" with a perfect vase of flowers and so on like the photo above!!

Sorry to continue....the plan by Louise on the 20/01/2017.... But the laundry ( with internal access or through cloak room) and ensuite to the rear of the garage the master behind...... Then a Wir separating the master form the living or a bathroom...... The a fireplace if required against the western wall central in the house.... The entrance and small cloak room for the winter woollies against the garage and the other three beds at the front RHS with bath near.... The lounge/ kitchen/ dining in a similar layout but with minimal a walls blocking the view from the entry to the living/kitchen .... I like at lease a small wall dividing the living and lounge for the teenagers also.... If I get an chance I will sketch something up. Good luck this the paperwork... Plans are the fun part.
