Bathroom reno layout advice
Comments (20)Save the pink bathroom! The original floor and the pink bath are beautiful! And obviously appropriate to the era of your house. http://savethepinkbathrooms.com/ To give you a more spacious feel, have the door replaced with a cavity sliding door - it gives you an amazing amount of extra space, we did it in our bathroom I would replace the vanity, which is obviously not original, with a custom laminate vanity with cupboards underneath in pink (top) and grey (cupboard doors/sides) or even a boomerang pattern for the top (http://retrospaces.com.au/retro/images/laminates/Renovation/FirstLadyPink.jpg) have a skilled tiler repair any areas that need repairing and have the tiles professionally cleaned and re-grouted and re-do all of the silicone, Then replace all the tapwear with new chrome taps but in an appropriate style (like these for example http://www.caroma.com.au/bathrooms/taps/retro/retro-wall-top-assemblies) and a new glass shower screen. A really fresh coat of white paint (use the bathroom product), better lighting - put a light in above the mirror (http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/00255303/) and a fan/heater/light in front of the vanity exactly above where you'll stand when you get out of the shower. If the mirror isn't in good shape (or it may be mirror doors on a cabinet? I can't tell) then think about replacing the mirror too. You'll save a heap of money over completely re-doing the bathroom and importantly you'll be in keeping with (and preserving) the midcentury design of your home....See MoreAdvice on a small-kitchen layout needed
Comments (11)as usual the Real Estate floor plans are not consistent (ie the living and dining area is shown as 4.5 m wide and the kitchen is 4.8?) but, based on estimated measurements the most effective improvement will be achieved with a new kitchen by removing the tall corner pantry and the wide cabinet (and thick brick?) wall next to the fridge and installing base and wall cabinets along the fridge wall with a small base and wall cabinet around to the side of the window and replacing the island with a flat 2400 x 900 counter with knee space and/or shallow storage on the dining room side and drawers for pantry storage next to the sink cabinet i can't see any advantage to altering the laundry and if you don't need the study nook i imagine that the space can be used for extra storage...See MoreFarm cottage Reno - advice on internal layout
Comments (7)Hi, is the storeroom next to bed 1 going to be a bathroom, as it’s a long way through the living spaces to bathroom between b 2 and 3. This will impact layout recommendations. In one layout you have the kitchen near store. If not bathroom will it be part pantry? I see one plan has the missing verandah dimension. Thanks....See MoreLayout advice for living / dining room for a reno of an old city house
Comments (7)Good suggestions from Kate. I would also suggest the following. Remove the kitchen pass through wall completely and install a peninsula bench. A support beam may be required. Or a support pillar which could be incorporated at end of the bench. Install a 2400mm high solid core sliding door, think barn style, for the bathroom door. This will give a bit more sound proofing for the poor people using your toilet in the dining room. Place the lounge furniture so the corridor is along the wall. Using single accent chairs. All dining and lounge furniture should be light in colour. The furniture in the photos is dark and bulky and sucking the light out of the room. Paint the stairs completely in a light colour. You have not mentioned a budget, so these changes are cosmetic more than structural (apart from the pass through wall)...See MoreE.M. Busenshut
