Using F17 formply as external walls for shed

Am thinking of using Specrite 17mm formply as external walls for shed and attaching mortlock pine battens. It seems like a good material for this purpose even if that is not what is intended for. Any experts have thoughts on this (eg. will it fade/expand/peel over time?)

Hi. I've used formply with a marine grade finish for a balustrade on a house in Sydney. It had slots cut out from the sheet to give it some decorative treatment and allow the owners to see through to the street while providing privacy. Unfortunately the builder did not treat the cut edges and the surface finish delaminated into unsightly bubbles. It had to be replaced entirely.

Be wary of exposed edges. Ensure they are encapsulated or capped with non corrosive metal.

Thanks for this. The more I look into it the more I think the risk of bubbling/peeling over time is too high. Any suggestions on what would make a nice smooth backing to a panel with thin pine slats nailed on - fibre cement/exterior plywood or something else? Thanks again for any help on this shed project.

I've been playing around with a pantry location. Originally, I was going to move the pantry into the laundry with some custom shelving and cut the laundry space in half. Now, Im thinking of cutting into the study area and building a wall there, and converting the new space into a long and narrow walk in pantry. Either that or build half a wall and put built in shelving in the study. Building the extra wall will reduce the need to cover in the door way that is currently in place and instead utilising it. Thoughts? p.s. this isnt too scale.

I love those benches I have used one as sewing/desk with trestle legs, love it. The following is my idea with timber bench tops and using your cabinets, This would work if you could run the plumbing across to the left,either inside or externally. ,I have moved the sink to allow you to use the 80cm cabinet as your dish rack, the window won;t allow this. Or you could just swap the sink and cooker and use other shelving for the dish rack Back wall R-L 60cm cabinet,cooker,60cm cabinet 800 void for sink,60cm cabinet.fridge. Wall, using the 80cm x 42cm as plate drainer with timber open shelves on both sides, extraction is a simple ceiling extractor fan. I have added a narrow 60cm Island which uses both 40cm at both ends,like the sink there's a void which can have a couple of stools andr rubbish binscan be placed under the sink cheers

If this is to be your forever home, I would suggest to convert the bedroom 4, with the existing ensuite and shed, into a master suite. If your boys are 6 and 8 years old, they will soon be 13 and 15 and you won’t want to share a bathroom with them, and you would not want them to access your bedroom unannounced through the bathroom! Totally renovate the bathroom into what you require for the boys and guests. Totally renovate the bed 4, ensuite and shed into your master suite. Look to the future use, as it will be here before you know it. Don’t renovate for what you need now renovate for what is needed in the future, as in this build environment it may take longer to be completed than anticipated.

oklouise: I appreciate your idea. Sounds good. This is the access which is on the northern side of our lot. Access to the back of the property. The lot is E-W rectangular plot. The access upto the gate would be frequented by meter readers from the front of the property. The gate comes as shown after the down pipe with the hinge on the pole affixed to my wall while the other pole goes butting with the retain wall and as the fencing guy has told me he will put in non expandable grout to hold the pole in place and there would be a bare 5-10mm gap between the neighbour's wall and the pole. The gate would open inwards into our property so as u look into the photo the gate open inwards right. Also I could not gather the concrete bit maybe concrete language is hard for me to understand. i will ask my landscaper but if youcan shed some more detail for the approach that would be very much appeciated kindly. We are not planning to concrete but if that is a way then we can think. We are actually planning to put in thick liimestone steppers and decorative stones. Any other fair ways/ideas for landscaping on this stretch is welcome

Well, HU-115348458. After learning what can happen to ply in my project here in Oz, I worked in the UAE where high temperatures and arid climate means that timber screens dry out and warp. For screens there, I used aluminium sheet with slots cut out. No twisting, shrinkage or need to repaint etc.

This is Al Muneera in Abu Dhabi .

However, your problem is exterior cladding. I would suggest that you use fibrous cement sheet with a suitable paint then attach your battens with screws through nylon washer spacers so that the battens are not hard against the fibro and rainwater has a chance to dry out. The below image shows this methodology used on the end of a RV toilet block I designed here in Eumundi.
