House front remodel ideas
Comments (22)What a wonderful purchase Learner. You have a lovely example of mid century modern with what looks to be an extension over the garage. To get feel for the style search here on house under photos - exterior, mid century. That will give you lots of ideas and references to what will work. I was in Palm Springs last year and have lots of facade photos if you want me to post some. Dr Retro is a Pro on here who could really help you with design ideas. He specialises in houses like yours. I agree with others though, I wouldn't mess too much with the design- mainly paint and landscaping - however I would look at changing those flys screens and the front door screen. Landscaping will depend on where. You are.if it is a dry Mediterranean environment you could definitely look at Palm Springs architectural and desert style plants. If you are in Melbourne look at the softer styles with maples and conifers as ground covers. All are hardy. All in all you have a lovely house that could be a most magnificent example of suburban mid century modern. In my opinion the more you play up to that the greater the $$ return on investment....See MoreHome extension/renovation ideas for tough layout
Comments (8)This is really a job for a professional, as there are so many implications for town planning, fire and acoustic separation between dwellings (covered under the building regulations), legal (are you on seperate titles, or is it strata titled), front setbacks, and structural implications. I haven't seen too many houses that have been subdivided into two units that are on two seperate titles in recent times as the complexities are so challenging with the current planning and building regulations. Your project will need a lot of research and careful management of the bureaucracies, depending on where you live. Your best bet would be to start with a local professional who is familiar with the local planning laws and council requirements. You will find it a lot easier to limit your new work to the existing building envelope. Best of luck, Dr Retro...See MoreAny ideas on floor plan for renovation - 70y old house in Melbourne
Comments (5)what are all the walls floors and roof built out of? are the front bedroom and rear living room additions to the original house? is there a step down to the living room and what are the thick sections of wall at the end of the bathroom and study built of?...where are the original and proposed external doors to the backyard? is there a garage and driveway or any good or bad views and where would you have a dining area?.... it's important to understand the existing structure before considering changes eg the dimensions are inconsistent (varying wall thicknesses?) and you have removed sections of wall between the kitchen and lounge but these walls may hold up the ceiling and roof...do you know which walls are load bearing?...See MoreIdeas to renovate the floorplan of our new home
Comments (44)Hey All. I've been thinking about the 3rd bedroom which will become a childs bedroom one day, and whether I can eat into that space to make an ensuite. Take a look at these designs compared to the original and let me know what you think? (It pretty much removes 1m from the length of the room from 4 to 3m. Then there is still a wardrobe inside this, so pretty much 2.5m) Also keen on your thoughts as to what I've done with the wardrobe in the master. I've pushed it ~60cm into the room (making the room go from 4m wide to ~3.3m wide) to turn it into a walk in wardrobe. The current planned wardrobe is around 2.6m wide, but this would add another 60cm to the ends, so would turn it into around 3.8m of Wardrobe space. Does this make the room too cramped, or do you think that the left over space would be easy to work with?...See MoreAB
