I have been looking on Houzz and got a couple of ideas for the bedside tables (without spending anything!) .. Please let me know your opinions on the following... Attack the existing ones with a sander and take off half of the white paint, exposing the dark brown underneath, and making them look like they are meant to be shabby. Take them both out of the room and replace with a stack of vintage suitcases on the door side and an old weathered timber folding chair on the window side (got these in storage so wouldn't cost anything!). The chair would have to have something on top like a box to hide the usual bedside table clutter in, I guess. 3. Any other suggestions? Don't want to spend any money here if I can help it! I have access to plenty of old pallets which people seem to make amazing things out of but don't know if that would be too rustic in this room?

I think siriuskey's latest plan is better, as it extends length of double shower which resolves the issue of chute/cupboard combo door, and allows for a wider door into master bedroom. A wider door will be a more dramatic entrance to this large suite, so worth seriously considering. The plan does eliminate the linen cupboard; however. Personally, I would not want to store my bed linens in a bathroom simply because of moisture/steam. The generously sized walk-in robe has more than enough space for bed linens to be stored. That's where I stored mine in our last home. It was very convenient and only a few steps from shelf to bed. I stored all other linens in the wardrobe of upstairs spare bedroom, close to the kids' rooms. Re the double shower - I mentioned previously a 1.8m length is sufficient IF you have a glass sliding door that slides alongside track like a barn-style door. Hubby & I did regret not thinking about how awkward a hinged/pivot door would be. Current dbl shower is 2.2m and has the sliding door I described. We didn't request a longer shower, but the architect drew it up that way. Given my choice, I'd always go with bigger.

One question i have with your design Oklouise is whether the sloped ceiling will look odd in bed 2? The house is an old queenslander and bed 2 was originally the lounge room, with two sets of french doors opening on to an enclosed veranda. We are opening up the front veranda but not the side one (because that would limit the floor space we have available to build in downstairs). The "reading/playroom" was kept separate to the bedroom because that space has a steep sloped ceiling and a set of french doors opening on to it so we thought it looked like a separate space. If we remove the french doors and knock down the wall, do you think the bedroom will feel strange? We would like to keep the set of french doors opening on to the verandah at the front of the room.

Ok So I may be repeating other here on here! I do not like the internal bathrooms and toilets. I would much rather see the ensuite on the outside wall and robe in center of house. WIR doesn't matter but fresh air and light in ensuite is a must to me. Enter main bedroom between the two. Also the kids bathroom and loo which needs to be a powder room so then you do not need the other one in center of house, find a way of them being on an external wall. maybe up with laundry? I really cannot see the use of such huge pantries....but then we are all different. I love our db shower: 1200 x 900 with two roses: he is 6 ft ++ and I am 5 ft nothing so roses stay where we each need them!! Cheers Margot
