The street location of this property had already undergone substantial demolition and rebuilds, and our clients wanted to re-establish a sense of the original history to the area. The existing Edwardian home needed to be demolished to create a new home that accommodated a growing family ranging from their pre-teens until late 20’s.

Built on the beautiful Nepean River in Penrith overlooking the Blue Mountains. Capturing the water and mountain views were imperative as well as achieving a design that catered for the hot summers and cold winters in Western Sydney. Before we could embark on design, pre-lodgement meetings were held with the head of planning to discuss all the environmental constraints surrounding the property. The biggest issue was potential flooding. Engineering flood reports were prepared prior to designing so we could design the correct floor levels to avoid the property from future flood waters. The design was created to capture as much of the winter sun as possible and blocking majority of the summer sun. This is an entertainer's home, with large easy flowing living spaces to provide the occupants with a certain casualness about the space but when you look in detail you will see the sophistication and quality finishes the owner was wanting to achieve. ​

Enjoying the benefits of privacy with a soak in the stone bath with views through the large window, or connect directly with nature with a soak on the bath deck. The open double shower provides an easy to clean and contemporary space.

A standard approach to kitchen design was not an option for this glamorous open-plan living area. Instead, an intricate bar sits front of house, with attractive and practical kitchen space tucked in behind.

A combination of oak and pastel blue created a calming oasis to lye in the tranquil bath and watch the world go by. New Velux solar skylight and louvre window were installed to add ventilation and light.

We were commissioned to create a contemporary single-storey dwelling with four bedrooms, three main living spaces, gym and enough car spaces for up to 8 vehicles/workshop. Due to the slope of the land the 8 vehicle garage/workshop was placed in a basement level which also contained a bathroom and internal lift shaft for transporting groceries and luggage. The owners had a lovely northerly aspect to the front of home and their preference was to have warm bedrooms in winter and cooler living spaces in summer. So the bedrooms were placed at the front of the house being true north and the livings areas in the southern space. All living spaces have east and west glazing to achieve some sun in winter. Being on a 3 acre parcel of land and being surrounded by acreage properties, the rear of the home had magical vista views especially to the east and across the pastured fields and it was imperative to take in these wonderful views and outlook. We were very fortunate the owners provided complete freedom in the design, including the exterior finish. We had previously worked with the owners on their first home in Dural which gave them complete trust in our design ability to take this home. They also hired the services of a interior designer to complete the internal spaces selection of lighting and furniture. The owners were truly a pleasure to design for, they knew exactly what they wanted and made my design process very smooth. Hornsby Council approved the application within 8 weeks with no neighbor objections. The project manager was as passionate about the outcome as I was and made the building process uncomplicated and headache free.

Jack’s Point is Horizon Homes' new display home at the HomeQuest Village in Bella Vista in Sydney. Inspired by architectural designs seen on a trip to New Zealand, we wanted to create a contemporary home that would sit comfortably in the streetscapes of the established neighbourhoods we regularly build in. The gable roofline is bold and dramatic, but pairs well if built next to a traditional Australian home. Throughout the house, the design plays with contemporary and traditional finishes, creating a timeless family home that functions well for the modern family. On the ground floor, you’ll find a spacious dining, family lounge and kitchen (with butler’s pantry) leading onto a large, undercover alfresco and pool entertainment area. A real feature of the home is the magnificent staircase and screen, which defines a formal lounge area. There’s also a wine room, guest bedroom and, of course, a bathroom, laundry and mudroom. The display home has a further four family bedrooms upstairs – the primary has a luxurious walk-in robe, en suite bathroom and a private balcony. There’s also a private upper lounge – a perfect place to relax with a book.
