looking for advice on my new house design layout
Comments (14)Hi renovationsnovice, Looks like a large home proposal, the ground floor plan is a little hard to read as there seems to be a number of edit attempts. Reading your initial Brief, to the extent that you have posted it appears that you might benefit from revisiting the brief, and perhaps coming to some compromise on some of the preferred areas. There may be a few items that you might consider on the drawings posted; The Upstairs areas seem not to relate to the downstairs area in terms of bearing, this could reduce some costs by having top walls bearing over bottom walls. The new width of the family room you propose at 8.5 m - for domestic construction this is a significant requiring decent size steel beams and steel columns - if it could be avoided it might result in some worth wile saving in both money and complexities. In all two story's home I always advise my clients to have an office/bedroom/guest room downstairs as it often serves for emergencies when someone breaks a leg or an elderly relative visits. (unless you can prove that such life complexities will not visit you). Its great that you have provided an airlock between the garage and the main passage, if you could locate the stair in this area you could regain some of the space lost by the airlock. There are other areas that my require editing, however it appears that you may have to settle some of the larger areas before you can move on to the next edit. I would be happy to comment/work on this project. Comments (15)Some amazing suggestions above, if you're after a more budget friendly approach... I would reduce the brown-based colours (beige walls, beige calico looking curtain etc) and dark colours to make it feel less focused on the rustic wood. Cooler, fresher colours such as layering fresh white and pale greys, if you wish an interesting pop colour, but keep it 'muddy' (not too bright/primary) to sit well with the neutrals and the wood tone. So possibly a beautiful muted chatreuse, mustard, or even a deep teal. Definitely change your bedlinen - fresh whites and pale greys and then play on texture using beautiful linen, perhaps a couple of cushions in velvet (Target have some quite good quality ones). And I also think some large Euro pillows will soften the impact of the bedhead and get a larger quilt cover and let it sit/fall naturally over the foot of the bed, rather than tucking it in, this will also disguise the heavy wood. If you want to go further I'd definitely recommend changing your cream walls to a natural white or pale grey, even a warm based grey. Then change your curtain to a neutral blind or better yet a plantation shutter - this will look more contemporary classic and is also great for bedrooms in adjusting light nicely and privacy. Then once you've done all that and see how it all settles, buy some interesting bedside lamps, style with some lovely contemporary classic items such as a candle, small vase, or a small marble tray. Love this... http://www.westelm.com.au/arc-mid-century-table-lamp-medium-antique-bronze-w2015 Though this shape could suit the solid furniture better. http://www.westelm.com.au/acrylic-column-table-lamp-w1355 Or even this? https://www.freedom.com.au/lighting/lighting-accessories/table-lighting/191/23841079/xenon-table-lamp?reflist=lighting/lighting-accessories/table-lighting Layering other elements will take the focus off the bedroom suite and it should sit harmoniously with all the rest....See MoreClean And Modern , or Art Deco , For My Next Home ?
Comments (34)Things are ticking along . We have a whole lot of long skinny flush-mounted LED taillights -- they won't be fitted until we take Frankie off the road to re-paint , as the existing lights come off , and these ones will need holes cut , the exterior repainted , then these lights bonded ( glued ) in . The Mercedes seats have had new certified mounts made ( being a safety item , we spent about $150 getting them certified -- keeps it legal , although there are literally thousands of vehicles out there that have had seats changed , and no certs ) and we made little 'boxes' that have walnut tops , and all the controls for the electric seats are in these ( on Merc cars , they are on the doors , but our auto sparky has made new mini wiring looms ) . We dropped the seats to the upholsterer last week , so in the next month or so they will be recovered -- a sort of bone/cream leather for the surrounds , and red leather with diamond stitching up the middles . This is almost what my cab looks like , mine has 1980's Falcon or similar bucket seats in a grey vinyl . I assume that was done so that there is only the 2 seats , and you can get through to the back , whereas in the pic with 3 seats , you can't . My interior is the same colours -- 3 different charcoal/grey tones on the dash , then a black on the doors ( why , I have no idea -- I would have thought charcoal would have been better ? ) . Once the seats are back and fitted , I am tempted to get the door cards redone -- do a padded charcoal vinyl that matches one of the dash colours , but do a 'scallop' from the rear of each door in the lighter leather , then a red maybe 150mm wide scallop in the middle . I feel that will tie in the doors , the dash and the seats better . The booth seating ( table and chairs basically ) in the rear will get done the same cream/bone and red leather , to tie it in a bit more . Which then brings up 1 problem . You may have noticed I have used a downloaded pic , and I was going to post a few 'before' pics of the cab and the rear , so you can see it in its 90's wooden and tacky lino glory , but that turns out to be a problem . All the 'before' pics I have are ones that the last owner e-mailed to me . I downloaded them all , they are still on my computer , I can look at them no problem . BUT for some reason , they aren't JPG's -- they show as 'Google Chrome Files' , and I can't work out if I can post them here -- I've tried but nothing happens . Are there any experts that know how to post these 'files' ( pictures ) ?...See MoreLooking for suggestions on counter stools and dining set
Comments (22)Thank you all so much for your time and fantastic suggestions... I was so confused and couldnt figure out how to decorate the space.. Your inputs have enlightened me with so many new ideas.. As most of you suggested, I think I might keep the dining table and add more wood accents to the kitchen.. I am also considering to change the dining chairs. As someone said, i also think its too much black and the lean chairs is making the dining area smaller for the space....See MoreDarzy
