Tiny Home Kitchen - How would you design?
Comments (24)Hi, I know this is a long time after your first notes but I can't help but comment. I love the idea of the shallow wall that goes to the ceiling with a ladder. We lived in a home where the refrigerator was outside on the porch due to lack of space. With very few cupboards, I did a couple shelving units built between studs like that. I measured the height of each shelf away from the one above it with my canned foods. Turned out great and it is amazing how much those 2 little shelves could hold. I also want to say that I don't know building codes in your country but I agree that you should get at least 3 other quotes. With a concrete wall you can put electrical in that area. You can just have them use metal, electrical conduit. It does show (toe kick works, too!) but it is very non-invasive and should be cheaper. I really love the kitchen that Edith Martins posted. It is such a little gem. I can just picture myself working in that lovely place. Go slowly with your renovations. Listen to all thoughts and suggestions. In the end, this is your money you are spending and your home, so be sure to do what makes you happy. Lastly, there is NO box that you have to work within. Look online, watch Tiny House shows, go to architectural websites for ideas. Do YOUR thing. And, please post pictures when you are done! Best....See MoreKitchen Re-Design Options with Butler's Pantry
Comments (17)Hi siriuskey, it's actually quite a big house, just awkwardly laid out. There are two other bathrooms - a main bathroom and an ensuite - and the laundry will just be a stacked washer and dryer, so not much space required. Yes, I think one door is a better option for the layout too. The house is on a very good sized corner block. The dining room side is open to a car parking deck, no roof. There is a flowering hedge between the dining room window and the car park area so visually it's private and allows good sunlight. Off the family room is a large covered patio plus lawn and trees, and a large shed that will be turned into a home office. Adjacent to the dining room is a bedroom and past that (so the opposite side of the house to the dining room and car park area), is the neighbouring fence. So there is only a narrow walkway between the house and the fence....See MoreKitchen re design advice needed please
Comments (49)thank you for your advise. I have put images of the outside of the house as that where the dining room is from there we will be bringing the decking out 3 metres which will create an out - indoor eating. this is the most finished room giving you an idea of the colour and house. all blue grey tones. sorry about stuff around but a reno house is hard to find spaces below is kitchen as is looking out to the dining through that open servery but we are taking most of that wall out to make an open space - its very small step down below into the dining through the left door way. below is the now dining. the table is very small and hard to pull chairs in and out of hence the indoor out door considerations. belwo is the outdoor looking in. from those doors we are putting a 3 metre decking i think. we have a lot of yard so its easy to do...See MoreRe-design of kitchen
Comments (7)Hi Nikita, I agree with Kate's comments. Change the fluorescent light fitting to something much nicer in LED or match the other recessed fittings. Put LED strip lights under the overhead cupboards to shine onto the bench. I'd probably change the blinds to a lighter colour to match the walls. It looks like you can't change the flooring without doing the whole area so leave that as is unless it is not in a good condition. Definately change the cabinet handles but also look at changing the upper cabinets to a lighter colour to match the walls or black. There appears to be black elsewhere in the stairs. If the budget extends to it, you could update that whole wall, either with just those upper cabinets or depending on what is on the other side of that wall, build in that wall to include a proper pantry beside the fridge. See below. Additional cabinetry would need to be done in the new colour to avoid miss matching the existing timber. If you do some new cabinets, your existing upper cabinets could be changed so the lower level is one consistant line rather than having the step you currently have. Changing the benchtop is an expensive option but you might want to get the circular end cut back to square to give it an updated look. If you want a breakfast bar, add one at table height to part of the peninsular where there are no cupboards facing that side so you use chairs rather than stools. Do this in white if you can't match the black granite. As timber, white and black are considered neutral, you could add a splash of colour or pattern with an awesome tile choice for the splashback. See below also. There are so many options for splashbacks. Tiles are my favourite but you can also use sheet metal like copper for an interesting effect. Sooo many options but go for what you like that fits your budget. Good luck, C....See MoreKia Designs
