I've been playing around with a pantry location. Originally, I was going to move the pantry into the laundry with some custom shelving and cut the laundry space in half. Now, Im thinking of cutting into the study area and building a wall there, and converting the new space into a long and narrow walk in pantry. Either that or build half a wall and put built in shelving in the study. Building the extra wall will reduce the need to cover in the door way that is currently in place and instead utilising it. Thoughts? p.s. this isnt too scale.

$300k would be the building budget only and will often not include the architect or other professional service fees like surveyors, engineers and certifiers. The biggest point to remember, is the reason behind engagement of an architect. Are you after a great lifestyle outcome in your home. Are you are detailed person wanting to ensure there is a place for everything in your home. Does your site offer something where you can gain by tremendiously. Do you want your own ideas challenged. The fees set by different architects are yes based around scope of service but also based around their skills and so not all architects do charge the same rates. My own service is for the building architecture, interior design and landscape design, you might say what does that have to do with my lounge room extension and in your case there maybe only interior scope or your external spaces maybe also impacted. Be careful even though some architects have alot of positive reviews this does not mean their design ideas and direction are going to be best for you. Just agreeing with a clients thoughts is not helpful to a client. Colorbond will look handsome on that home. If it were possible to repair the roof and retain the tiles I'd do it. But if budget does not allow then sure a tin roof will be fine also. Australia has a long and proud historical use of tin. I live in a heritage town, every house in it from 1880's right down to 1960's has a tin roof, including many homes of that era. If that house were weatherboard built in the exact same year, it would have a tin roof anyway. I'm a history fan, I'm a preservation freak, but sometimes practicality needs to take centre stage and that is exactly what the people who built the house would have chosen had their budget not allowed the tile. For my money, given the lovely colouring of your brick I would go with a Jasper roof, that nice bronze with pick up the detail of your brick and look good and also work with the existing trim. Another thing you can do to avoid the cheap roof look is choose a different profile to the tin. This roof is the same pitch as yours on a similarly proportioned building. The profile however is what makes it look more heritage than a standard corrugation. Not sure if BHP do this profile but I'm pretty sure that Lysaght do. The one thing I would be careful not to do however, is change the pitch of the roof if the trusses also need to be replaced. It's pitch is an essential character of that home and are necessary for right proportion.
