Personally, I'd prefer a WIR as opposed to a large "wall" of cupboards. I like the ability to open a single door and see all my clothes, rather than opening and closing multiple doors for various bits and pieces (e.g. pants in one cupboard, shirts in another). I think the WIR would be cheaper as nice cabinetry for the second option could be expensive. And I think the WIR would be better for resale value. Also, it's just a personal opinion, but the example photo reminds me of a gym locker room. A nice gym locker room, but that's the impression I have from all the cupboards with the bench in the "middle".

Image 1 with bigger kitchen. Looks quite good. Dining area is very generous at 6000mm, as is the laundry at 2500mm wide. Many laundry's are 1800 wide which is acceptable so 2500 is generous indeed. Good for ironing and clothes sorting. Cavity slider to pantry as it'll be open 99% of the time and look like 'no door'. Make study bigger by relocating the bedroom BIR to run along the hallway wall near the door. It'll make the bedroom smaller, say 3300 (600mm for BIR) but thats still quite good for a single bedroom. Also easier to furnish as it reduces circulation pathways across the bedroom. Also make entry area wider with the possibility of a wall to define the entry rather than entering directly into the living area. You'll need a place for coats, shoes, etc. even for guests to place down their items so a bench or a cupboard to hide everyday items is a worthy addition. Watch out for the tall windows as they diminish your furniture placement options. Privacy and energy efficiency comes into it as well. Views are important but its a combination of everything.

just had a look at your existing plans for the second storey.. 1/ I'd make it all open plan .. First I'd move your bed 4 downstairs into the theatre room..reason ? bathroom is existing down there..you can turn it into a master suite..bathroom..study as retreat. which then leave you all that room ..bed 4 ..kitchen ..meals..lounge..foyer to just be one huge living area.. from that living area you can pop in a stacker door/bi folds to lead to your screen verandah. Personally I'd get rid of the screens and open it right up with banisters so you can have fresh air flowing in. You can do the same with the front as well to make it one huge area without much changes.

Hi Siruskey (just found the thank you button) Nothing is in place - it is conversion of a small bedroom. The WC was placed where it is - and was partitioned off as you have drawn, in an earlier version... decided against it on natural light grounds. i like it tucked behind the door - the bathroom will be first room coming down the hallway from the front door. The link is exactly the type of bath I am thinking of I think i would try for something like 1500 x 750 size In the house design, there is a completely separate, attached to the house, outside loo / powder room, to be the go to loo for the garage band members /outdoor gatherings / during days working out in the garden and anyone seeking maximum privacy ! Keeping the shower behind the vanity - all tiles - no glass is appealing (not a fan of squeegeeing) 1200 seems deep enough? As long as 750 gap beween bath and shower is enough to move through easily enough. The bedroom in the old house has been lived in for 20 years and the bed has always been in the wrong place. The bulk head shown above where the two new small windows are, is where the old built in wardrobe will be removed. I have never been able to put the bed on this 4th wall - have tried it on all of the 3 other walls and it was always "wrong" - not sure if it was feng shui or not. The bulkhead is to manage the symmetry of the ceiling that has a deco ceiling rectangular panel. Partly my motive to take space from the bathroom for the BIR is to preserve the symmetry. I am trying out the 4th wall as location for bed, as the wardrobe is now storage with temporary curtains other than doors. It has the "right" feel about it. The ceiling panel is longer parallel to the window - so for a BIR taking off the "length" of the room feels better, than from the width, even though measurements are similar. What amazes me is how everything in design & planning process is connected to everything else... Fresh eyes from you (and oklouise) has been invaluable to sort out my head. .. and I appreciated your understanding of the J&J principle for the upstairs bathroom.. I think I will stick with it :)
