Hi Kirsty, could you please advise the colour of your vanity and whether it is a custom made one and if not, could you let me know its name and where you bought it. Also, what is the colour of your floors tiles and where did you get them from. (I have come to the conclusion that charcoal/dark grey tile plus a much lighter grey tile plus white on some walls plus a timber vanity or timber accessories in bathroom , plus white (or close to it) below sink counter top is the way to go for a beautiful bathroom. The trick is figuring out exactly what proportion of each colour to use and where to put them for each particular layout.

Thank you siriuskey. Yes that's what I was referring to, but I think I wasn't giving credit to the island sink, which would also serve for food prep. I was thinking about efficiency from my perspective. Euro bins next to sink in island, would be beneficial for ease of handling waste. Another consideration is: when using cooktop and extraction fan, will noise from fan interfere with person in study? Also, will steam from say, boiling water steam bother anyone using the study desk? I am not trying to throw cold water on the plan by my questions, I'm merely trying to imagine diff scenarios so as much as can be taken into consideration is. I have a glass splashback behind induction cooktop and a very effective extraction fan; however, when a large pot of water is at full boil, the glass steams up something chronic and I have to constantly wipe it and the underside of exhaust fan or else water drips down onto the cooktop (and any food I'm cooking).

based on approximate dimensions i've reduced the extra hallway width upstairs, added the two storey void (or bigger upstairs bed 2 or small study) moved the stairs to the west and rearranged upstairs and down with a central rumpus room or potential extra bedroom and master suite across the rear...the stairs are still open underneath up to the downstairs bathroom door that is enclosed under the stairs to create more bathroom privacy and a generous nook for the piano...swopping the laundry provides a small porch for the garage and laundry with option for security screen on the outside of the porch ...the eastern alfresco will be cooler for afternoon outdoor entertaining (western alfresco creates circulation issues with the kitchen) although the existing dining and living areas could be swopped (btw don't forget the alfresco floor space extends up to the fence for more flexible furniture arrangements)

bigreader and oklouise thanks a lot for your comments. the floorplan is essentially set (discovered Houzz Advice too late...). It will be just me living there (i.e. no investment / rental, etc) and the bathroom with the bathtub is my preference. The original floorplan had two bathrooms in the same place, but as I'll have very rarely guests staying over, I traded off the added privacy (and potential resale / rental benefit) for my personal preference of a large, separate tub. The bedroom is about 3.50m by 3.10m in the main area, which isn't that large but should be more than enough just for me (the double bed drawn is from the developer, not myself). It's pretty much the size from the original floorplan, and my preference is for a bigger living space over sleeping space. I might be overestimating how big the bedroom is, though. One of the reasons I went along with the separate laundry is the increase in storage space (i.e. vacuum cleaner and similar things) as the kitchen cabinet space and bedroom robe are limited. I hadn't thought about a toilet in the laundry, but somehow I think the space might be too small and the cost in terms of storage space might be too high, but it's tempting.
