The vertical blinds MUST go. Sorry, but they are hideous and add nothing. Get some fabulous mid century fabric pattern in some gorgeous colours and make curtains. You can make a couple of scatter cushions also out of this fabric. Then pick out your favourite colour from the fabric to add some plain cushions. If you have gone with the patterned rug option such as asquithoatley has suggested, then just pick out the gentler colour for plain curtains to compliment the rug. Either way then choose cushions using any, or all of these colours. Then you should look for some decorative items in these colours such as beautiful bottles that might pick up an aqua, or some lamps with bases that colour to put on a side board. For the wall I suggest that you look on ebay in mid century modern and see if any wall sculptures attract you. There was quite a fad for enamelled metal wall sculptures back in the 60s which would add some life. Try to find one that also incorporates one of the pattern colours. Susan_66 made a great suggestion with a Howard Arkley print of a mid century house. You might even find one that is similar to your house style which would be fun. Happy hunting. Hi mitz. The first thing I would do is add a slim timber console table to just inside entry, to serve as a place to drop-off zone for keys, wallet, mail, etc. As there is an electrical outlet there, a table lamp would be useful and provide pleasant lighting. You could hang a mirror over the table or a wall hanging or artwork, if you prefer. Just be sure to keep size in perspective to the console and entry area. A woven basket under the console would add texture and provide a bit of storage. By using an electrical power strip you would be able to tidy up the TV, etc. cords and contain them to one wall outlet. You certainly have the wall space to accomodate a large artwork, perhaps something abstract and colourful? I also love wallhangings. Etsy has a number of artists who will custom create to suit your colours, and also size. Whatever you choose, take your time and be sure you really love it. You could also add a potted plant in a raised pot stand and a basket or two (vary size and shape) for greenery and texture and baskets make great storage containers. A grouping would help fill in wall space as well as be practical. At some point, you may like to add an area rug to ground your lounge area and help delineate it from kitchen/dining space. Take things slow and have a good look around before committing to purchase. I check out our many local op shops for used baskets - I've found some lovely ones to hold magazines, plants and throws in my house. Best wishes!

bigreader has had some excellent tips. The rug you've chosen is lovely, but you definitely need a bigger size. A larger rectangle size might have more underneath the couch. You can check out online options. The blue is fantastic, once you have that repeated around both areas your room will have much better flow. One other thing to think about when you are ready to change your lounge is to get something with a lower back (same with dining chair), these help a more visual flow than high back chairs.

What is in the second photo, a power point? And you think the tv socket is going to be in that same wall? Then that is where the entertainment unit goes. Is that the only power point? When you buy your entertainment unit choose something which allows access for plugging in the vacuum cleaner. Unless you have a rechargeable vac which doesn't need a power point. With hard flooring perhaps you will mop more than vac. Although if you want to soften or warm the space you might have a rug? I didn't understand "combination of bright and neutral colours" until I looked at your Idea Book. You have some lovely pictures there. Do you have any artworks yet? That might influence which colours you repeat throughout your space. The grey sofas are probably the most versatile and timeless, and something like that might be the easiest to source in a size and configuration to suit your needs.
