Comments (16)oklouise thanks for the ideas. We have actually really thought about the zoning. We want the two bedrooms on the southern side with a bathroom between for privacy. We also want the eastern lounge room to pop out as a dining room in that spot will waste a gorgeous view. We had a straight alfresco and thought it was all a bit hohum. I will attach the first and second drafts to see where we have come from. The first draft we had drawn was too boring for us ... Garry hated draft 2 as he thought it was too wide for solar access and didn't give cross ventilation (north to south or vv). It's only positive was the flow of west/east cross ventilation. Also the bathroom was too tucked away for guest use when we are using that nice alfresco area. We quickly scrapped all those ideas... LOL As I said, we like skillion roof lines and are planning on clerestory windows to maximise northern sun. Some raked ceilings will probably happen too (and definitely 9 foot ceilings in living areas). the mudroom/laundry will probably be incorporated into the hallway. Unlike some on this forum previously I don't object to entering through the laundry. It kind of gives a landing spot for groceries from the car on those cold days you don't want to leave the whole house open. The garage may actually be a carport to ensure we can have ventilation come through that way and to help us with budget....See MoreBathroom renovation for small space
Comments (47)Everything is a compromise. The compromise in your home is that your bathroom space was created without a toilet in mind. Personally if the need for a second toilet in a house isn't that great that I wouldn't create a cramped bathroom in the name of it. Here's your choices. Extra toilet in the bathroom and shower over bath. Extra toilet in the bathroom and freestanding shower only. Renovate your bathroom as is and cope with one toilet in the house. I would weigh up how often you actually have a need for 2 toilets. Is it common that someone is waiting for the toilet in your household? If not, then it's probably something you could live without. Houses were created with powder rooms to over come the issue of the toilet being unavailable when someone is showering. They weren't really created because there are so many people needing to use one that multiples are needed to be used at the same time....See MoreHouzz Community! Comments (5)I know it would get more complicated and probably be more expensive , but basically you are trying to get too much in there IMO . Everything is a compromise , and in fact , even if you had say a garage with power and water on , and moved the laundry there , you are losing both an inside laundry and a bath , to get the luxury of an en-suite . Lose 2 things to gain 1 in my opinion , so unless your main focus is an ensuite at all costs , it doesn't make a lot of sense . Me , I'd either live with it as it is , or depending on rules , regulations , present construction ( brick , weatherboard , etc ) , boundaries , even whether raised or ground-level -- I'd look at adding on , even if its a step up from a lean to -- I know its a 90's sort of thing , but an ensuite attached from either Bed 1 or 2 would possibly make at least as much sense ....See Moresiriuskey
