Roof advice sought: cape cod roof on "canberra red" brick house
Comments (8)Thanks for your thoughts, they have helped us with our decision. We're now planning on using the barramundi roof tile (it's a grey, a bit softer than the soho nights black. And not so shiny) with matching gutter and fascia. And the cladding in paperbark. I was thinking cream windows instead of the timber, so there's some lighter colours on the brick downstairs to tie it to the top. We can't match it exactly to the paperbark cladding because we aren't using aluminium windows, but I'm hoping the cream (which is supposed to be more of an off-white with this manufacturer) will look okay in the clad dormers upstairs. Fingers crossed!...See MoreShed house
Comments (8)Fair enough. Keep in mind that the outer structure would be cheaper but then it must brought up to habitable standards which is where the costs may go. If the shed you're using has a steel portal frame and purlins for example then you could use a foil backed blanket under roof sheet and wall sheet. Then insulate with batts and line walls and ceiling with plasterboard, plywood, etc. You could also look at the Kingspan insulation boards or something comparable. The slab would need to be over a moisture barrier. Depending on which state you living you may need to meet thermal efficiency standards as well such as windows and glazed doors, insulation requirements, eaves and window shading, etc. There are some shed manufacturers around that also do them as houses so this would be a good starting point. Dealing with council: Neither here nor there. Be wary as some officers in councils can make it difficult if they aren't used to dealing with a new system or a building process....... they may not say NO, but you'll need to give them a lot of extra info to support your cause....See MoreNew house colour advice needed please!
Comments (29)What a lovely house, a paint update will look really exciting! Contrary to all the colours you've chosen, I'd go instead with a warm grey (hint of taupe in it). It will always be classic, would look amazing with fresh white window frames and dark charcoal eaves (e.g. Dulux Monument). Cue my favourite colour: Dulux Dieskau. I just think there's quite a large area of uninterrupted rendered wall so I'd worry that if you go too bluish, it could look to be verging on pastel and a gingerbread house type effect. My brother painted Tranquil Retreat on his rendered Victorian and it has come up more blue than he'd thought (actually he was also considering Milton Moon). But of course, test paint a few walls sections with different aspects and check during the day from different angles (and even across the road)!! Actually there's another photo and paint colour I love that reminded me of this, I'll try and track it down....See MoreTiny house new build from an A1 Colourbond shed
Comments (1)having used steel for numerous buildings including an A1 steel building for a small holiday shack built on a rural block i have to say that you need to understand that although the steel kit is economical all the other trades are the same as building any new home although erecting the frame is faster but you may also have to think about off grid power, phone, a sewerage system, water supply, fencing and roadworks but the site plan and building design will be the most important consideration and recommend that you check yourhome.gov to make the best of passive solar design but is it it a house block or acreage, do you have water, phone and power and how many will live in the house?...See MoreUser
