This 1960s home was in original condition and badly in need of some functional and cosmetic updates. We opened up the great room into an open concept space, converted the half bathroom downstairs into a full bath, and updated finishes all throughout with finishes that felt period-appropriate and reflective of the owner's Asian heritage.

Small midcentury galley eat-in kitchen in DC Metro with a single-bowl sink, shaker cabinets, white cabinets, granite benchtops, white splashback, stone tile splashback, stainless steel appliances, medium hardwood floors and a peninsula.

I had a blast working on this personal project. My partner, Alex, is working from home and I needed a space where I could be creative but also put in the hard work. We had 100sf, a budget of "as-cheap-as-possible," and tons of rental restrictions--but good design always starts with a little problem solving, right? I infused the space with lots of neutral colors and tons of texture to keep it warm. I threw in my favorite vintage pieces, a big oversized paper lantern, and a bookshelf bar for some soul. & just like that, it's our favorite spot in town.

With no dedicated dining room and a cozy living room, the placement and scale of the pieces could make or buyer's first impressions. We were able to create a dedicated dining nook while highlighting the large windows. The scale de-emphasizes the small footprint adding to the great flow throughout the main living area.

Flooded with light is this bohemian inspired guest room. Bold teal pops really make an impact.
