Seriously Designed
This is an art piece which was created by Ross J M Peat, the designer of the home. It is individual pieces of teak wood that have been attached to each other to form this piece. After they logged some of the forests in Indonesia to get the old teak trees many years ago, they left the "Butt's" behind. They are now trying to reforest these areas and need to remove the butt's in order to plant new forests. They take as much of the butt out for the use of furniture, etc, and then set a fire to burn out the root system. This piece is made up of the almost burnt out roots, you can see the burn hole in the centre and then they were roughly cut square, dark stained and to finish it off they were all whitewashed.
