Charming Cottage Garden
The existing charming white painted “Summer House” was the centre of this makeover.
The new design required easier traffic flow and access to the front door of the house. Of many alternative options, my clients loved the idea of introducing two circular recycled brick areas to divide and define different spaces of the garden. The first circle acts as a thoroughfare and frames the soft new surrounding plants. My clients added a central lamp post here to add a touch of magic and welcoming character.
Moving the chicken run to a more practical corner of the garden, allowed me to create another large circular entertaining space adjoining the verandah and the Summer House, where a fire pit takes centre stage.
The garden is surrounded by newly painted white brick walls, a white garden gate, a white exterior, so opting to accentuate these with a mostly all-white planting scheme came naturally. Cottage plants including softly textured perennials, bulbs, shrubs, climbers and groundcovers ensure year round interest and colour changes. The beautiful old Wisteria which drapes romantically over the verandah each spring, a quirky old wheelbarrow holding trailing succulents & steppers connecting the brick circles with one another all lend to creating diverse interest.
My clients’ finishing touches such as adding new barn doors to their verandah, installing and painting new timber fences, renewing their courtyard pergola and adding perfect lighting, has transformed this garden into an inviting character-filled space to enjoy both during the day and night time.
