Small Scale Coastal Spaces
These small scale spaces were transformed from ordinary to attention catching spaces. Two front courtyard garden beds visible from the roadside and at the main entrance to the home, were given a makeover, adding depth, height and interest by installing low railway sleeper edges at angles which compliment the existing grey paving.
Bluestone crazy paving was laid informally with crushed limestone between, creating a coastal feeling and adding to the slight rustic feel of the garden spaces. The colour of the crushed limestone compliments the Colorbond fence and the existing limestone pillars.
The addition of the oversized potted planter adds wow factor to the entrance and continues the grey colour scheme introduced to contrast with the timber of the railway sleepers.
Planting was kept to a minimum, adding to the existing Olive tree and the grass trees. Being in close proximity to the ocean and having to be dog friendly, planting is hardy, yet displaying colour and texture through a variety of leaf choices.
A small tree, Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Natchez (White), will provide shade as it grows to allow summer outdoor seating to be enjoyed in the open triangular space.
