A tired embankment which showed years of being beaten by ocean winds, needed a revamp. The new design is a complement to this beach front home, now accentuating it when driving past on West Coast Drive.
Being a large sloping area which needed retaining, I added three raised planters on different levels. The use of galvanised steel compliments the existing infills in the boundary wall. Additional curved retaining was added where required to create practical stepped areas. Rainbowstone mulch was spread onto the levelled area adjoining the sloping driveway with bluestone steppers added for access throughout the garden beds to ease maintenance.
Refined planting was key for low maintenance and high impact. Hardy plants that can withstand seaspray and hot summers will ensure a low maintenance slope once the plants have spread. Three large feature Zamias and a grey leafed Fan Aloe add impact to the simplicity.
