Contemporary Curves
The existing bench seating and plants surrounding the pool had become unpractical.
The clients opted for removing the bulky unused bench seating, as well as a much loved, but awkwardly placed lemon tree. This allowed for a new patio roof to be installed, giving much needed shade to the space where freestanding seating and a bbq now invite summer and winter get-togethers.
Moving the pool gate entrance and installing new Travertine French pattern paving, has increased the use of the pool area, modernising it at the same time. Clever use of vertical decking as cladding, managed to hide the remains of the bench after removal, while at the same time repeating materials within the small back yard which makes for a cohesive design outcome.
The previous pool access was limiting the use of the separate areas, thus the makeover design concentrated on extending the alfresco by moving the pool fence back and adding a sufficient new timber deck. A new white powder coated blade pool fence echoes the pool curves, and cleverly creates a secret garden nook to be enjoyed when seated within the alfresco. Having intrusive views of the neighbouring double storey, this new garden space allows for much needed privacy.
The varied planting will soften the bottom of the pool fence as they mature, giving the sense of it becoming part of the garden itself. The plant palette consists of mostly white flowering perennials and shrubs, to enhance the white fencing. Lush greens, and contrasting greys add lots of textural variety. Along the narrow garden bed adjoining the pool, succulents and hardy plants will thrive even if exposed to pool water.
