Terraced Garden
Being such a large bare open canvas was daunting to start with, but soon the sloping site posed great potential for creating 2 separate terraces. The two larger levelled areas, treated with Riverstone mulch, are divided by a slightly sloping section with a stepper pathway connecting the two areas. Interacting curves playfully create the framework for an easy-care garden with no lawn.
Rusted steel edging was used to create the free flowing curved garden bed edges as well as assisting in retaining the soil where required. The rusty patina compliments the orange roof tiles & existing timber elements on the front façade.
The plant selection mostly includes native shrubs, grasses and groundcovers. Three white Crepe Myrtle trees add soft structure and shade within the shapes and curves of the garden beds. Some other exotic plants such as Clivias, White Agapanthus & Leucospermum (Pin Cushion) assist in keeping with an orange & white flower theme, complementing the large existing orange flowering Frangipani’s on the opposite side of the driveway. Some orange tinged foliage such as Nandinas and Euphorbia Fire Sticks were also included.
The large 1mD white low bowl, centred to the window, is the feature of the garden. Planted with a mix of succulents and grasses, it creates a soft, yet bold statement appreciated from all angles of the garden.
Groundcovers and grasses will protrude over the curvy steel edges over time, adding a more natural feel as they mature. Large bluestone steppers ensure that the spaces are all connected with one another.
