Circles & Spheres

A beautifully renovated workers cottage deserved an uplift to create more practical spaces. The result is an eclectic charming garden with a slight French flair to it, inviting one to explore & interact with the elements, heights and walkways.
The existing semi-circular limestone retaining wall & steps, now lead to a new large circular seating area, which has rainbowstone as its base for lower maintenance. The light coloured stone also adds the right amount of balanced colour & texture to the area.
The back garden areas were re-designed to include a lawn by removing an existing shed and laundry area. This opened the space up significantly, allowing one to enjoy this large open garden to the full.
The existing brick pathway made the addition of recycled bricks a no-brainer, to add charm and character to this historic home’s new garden. Together with rusted steel elements, including a new circular raised garden bed and feature spheres, the warmth of the new circular recycled brick edges create repetition and rhythm to the overall design.
The limestone wall & steps were lime washed with Bauwerk paint to steer away from the dark red rusty coloured stains left from bore water. The white walls were to compliment an all-white planting palette.
New hedges to soften the boundary fence and to frame the semi-circle, are contrasted by cottage type plants. Lots of grey foliage compliments the grey bluestone steppers which connect the large circle to the lower parts of the garden.
A Magnolia and a Crepe Myrtle, together with a weeping standard, add instant height to the new garden. Groundcovers such as Thyme and Dichondra Silver Falls will fill the open spaces between the steppers.
