Reunited with some amazing clients last week! These were some of my lockdown heroes - we tackled online presentations, project delays, and on-site questions together. While I couldn't wait for the professional photoshoot later this month, I had to share some sneak peeks. This was absolutely a challenging project! We squeezed in a staircase, a kitchen renovation, a lower-ground shower room, and even the boiler and washing machine – all within a tight space with tricky existing features and site levels. But now, it looks deceptively "easy" and open – just as good design should! The final result is remarkably close to the original vision, with details like the double-story round column, the slatted balustrade (including the beautifully detailed "slatted" newel post by the carpenter), the curved shower room wall, and the exposed structural beams bringing it all together. The clients truly trusted the process, and the contractors at @marptree absolutely delivered. Weather House is a bespoke home for a young, nature-loving family on a quintessentially compact Northcote block. Our clients Claire and Brent cherished the character of their century-old worker's cottage but required more considered space and flexibility in their home. Claire and Brent are camping enthusiasts, and in response their house is a love letter to the outdoors: a rich, durable environment infused with the grounded ambience of being in nature. From the street, the dark cladding of the sensitive rear extension echoes the existing cottage!s roofline, becoming a subtle shadow of the original house in both form and tone. As you move through the home, the double-height extension invites the climate and native landscaping inside at every turn. The light-bathed lounge, dining room and kitchen are anchored around, and seamlessly connected to, a versatile outdoor living area. A double-sided fireplace embedded into the house’s rear wall brings warmth and ambience to the lounge, and inspires a campfire atmosphere in the back yard. Championing tactility and durability, the material palette features polished concrete floors, blackbutt timber joinery and concrete brick walls. Peach and sage tones are employed as accents throughout the lower level, and amplified upstairs where sage forms the tonal base for the moody main bedroom. An adjacent private deck creates an additional tether to the outdoors, and houses planters and trellises that will decorate the home’s exterior with greenery. From the tactile and textured finishes of the interior to the surrounding Australian native garden that you just want to touch, the house encapsulates the feeling of being part of the outdoors; like Claire and Brent are camping at home. It is a tribute to Mother Nature, Weather House’s muse.

La reforma de este apartamento, muy próximo a la playa de La Concha, se ha diseñado cuidadosamente para crear un lugar acogedor, armonioso y sereno. Esto se refleja en la elección de materiales y colores naturales como los blancos rotos y tonos tierra. El cambio de distribución ha tenido un papel muy importante, creando espacios abiertos, como es el caso de la cocina-salón-comedor, e intentando optimizar al máximo la luz natural en cada rincón. Además, se han diseñado detalles de carpintería muy especiales como es el caso del cerramiento del salón y las puertas de paso en roble natural, dándole un carácter del que carecía este pequeño apartamento. En cuanto al mobiliario e iluminación, se ha realizado una selección con mucho cariño escogiendo piezas que se adaptan bien al espacio y acompañan a la sensación de amplitud y de calidez.

A kitchen with a view! This is a traditional kitchen with a modern twist. With the mix of a paneled and plain doorstyle, handles and handle-less, the kitchen had a nod to its period style with clean modern lines. Nestled into the rear of the open plan living area, the kitchen is part of the main living while still having a divide to keep the workings out of sight. The kitchen uses subtle tonal changes and texture in the tiles to add layers without over complicating the space.

Hemos destacado en color el nicho que enmarca los muebles integrados en la pared para crear profundidad y un toque de estilo personal. Nos encanta jugar con azulejos y texturas en pequeños detalles como es el caso de esta pared que queda enmarcada. Apostamos por un estilo minimalista y neutro donde los materiales y sus contrastes ofrecen la personalidad al proyecto.

Adottare nuove abitudini. Ciò rende flessibile lo spazio. Ma anche il nostro stile di vita.

Notting Hill is one of the most charming and stylish districts in London. This apartment is situated at Hereford Road, on a 19th century building, where Guglielmo Marconi (the pioneer of wireless communication) lived for a year; now the home of my clients, a french couple. The owners desire was to celebrate the building's past while also reflecting their own french aesthetic, so we recreated victorian moldings, cornices and rosettes. We also found an iron fireplace, inspired by the 19th century era, which we placed in the living room, to bring that cozy feeling without loosing the minimalistic vibe. We installed customized cement tiles in the bathroom and the Burlington London sanitaires, combining both french and british aesthetic. We decided to mix the traditional style with modern white bespoke furniture. All the apartment is in bright colors, with the exception of a few details, such as the fireplace and the kitchen splash back: bold accents to compose together with the neutral colors of the space. We have found the best layout for this small space by creating light transition between the pieces. First axis runs from the entrance door to the kitchen window, while the second leads from the window in the living area to the window in the bedroom. Thanks to this alignment, the spatial arrangement is much brighter and vaster, while natural light comes to every room in the apartment at any time of the day. Ola Jachymiak Studio
